Cultivating internal strength through training allowed Vanessa to heal from trauma, become more present to the heartbreak of the Earth, and advocate for our misunderstood and mistreated wild relatives
Exceptional. Thank you. I was linked to this via another post on "The Perfect Couple" by Amy.
Glad I was. My mother of 8 to an abusive husband and Church back in the day (early 60's) REWILDED herself through Judo. It gave her the strength and courage to bounce my father out and take back the house. It's a memory i will never forget — of course there is a longer version.
At the moment, my interviews and life in general keep me too busy to write!! But if an idea just keeps swirling around my head, that's the one I get on the page!
This… “In a world where women are considered the “weaker” sex, conditioned to shrink, and told beauty is our currency, boxing was my little rebellion. I wanted to know the part of myself that was predator instead of prey.” It inspires me to look into boxing now!! :) Thank you for yet another great interview Jane!
I'm happy to know this resonated with you, Imola! I definitely recommend boxing (obviously). If you look into it, make sure you find a coach who will teach you true skills, not just boxing-fitness which has become more popular these days and is not the same.
i’ve been following both your and vanessa’s work for a few months now and have felt so inspired by each of you. it is so soothing for the soul to find others who have hearts and stories that overlap with my own. thank you! can’t wait to read vanessa’s book. EARTHLY! :)
This means so much to me, dory. It is so neccessary to find kindred spirits and to align with nature in today's (often overwhelming) world. I look forward to your feedback once you read the book. 💚
Thank you for remembering you are wild- you are nature hirself!
For finding the seed of your indigenous soul that allowed you to grow…
You are truly inspiring - I feel blessed knowing that the “weeds, wolves and wild women “ are weaving their stories of their lives to help each and every one of us thrive!
This is beautiful, Margina! I'm humbled to know that this resonated so deeply. And yes, we are nature, not seperate, and remembering that is deeply healing. 💚
oh my goodness, now i'm embarrassed - i thought you had reshared it! I've been reading a lot of work on the subject of "rewilding" lately, so it must have reminded me of something and I confused it. So sorry for the confusion! i really loved it.
This is so inspiring ... and you have reminded me that I got a punching bag off of Marketplace because it felt so intuitively right, but forgot to get boxing gloves for myself!
I like how you referenced Waking the Tiger, too. This seems so serendipitous -- Did you know you can activate the "shaking spasms" any time in your body to release? I've been doing this for 18 years to support my own healing and wellness journey, and I am a TRE Provider and teach others to do this to release stress and tension from their bodies. All mammals shake to down-regulate. I believe it's our birthright to understand and use this natural mechanism. <3 You can find me at shakeawaystress.com. Thank you for your beautiful writing!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Carolyn! And, yes, get the boxing gloves!! I'm also a big supporter of Peter Levine's work. I will check out your website. Thanks!

Wow, what an incredible story, Prajna! Perhaps something you will write about one day! I'm so happy you enjoyed Vanessa's essay!
And how wonderful another post lead you here! Yay! I don't know who Amy is but I'm grateful!
I’m fairly new to Substack and I’m just awful with names but if I think of it, I’ll tell you
There are so many stories to write. I’m getting all backlogged with ideas.
How do you do it?
Thank you for your response

I hear you!
The author was wild enough to choose her unlikely, unique path to healing. What a warrior! GIF Bless
A warrior, indeed! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Sherry!
