Wow. I have never seen someone distill those plot lines down in such a beautiful way. I see now how it applies to not only writing but also across my life. Thank you as always Jane, for giving us all much to think about through sharing such a brilliant essay from Lauren.

Beautiful!! In other words, life, relationships and identity are complex. I couldn’t agree more! Your novel sounds intriguing. I would love to write “Alice”, but I am in Canada :( I very much enjoyed reading this essay and am inspired by it! Thank you.

As a thrice divorced family therapist, now long singled, your statement about doing one’s work on oneself before marrying is so honest and insightful and immeasurably helpful. We should share this with our children.

My favorite line: “the stories of our relationships form the essence of our lives”….poetic, vital, and the very heart of the story. Well done!

I’m in California, hope shipping is available here…Alice

What a thoroughly engaging and informative essay. I loved loved loved the graphs and the thoughtful weaving of ideas about content and context and structure and language. All of it. Thank you, Jane, for offering this. And for “introducing” me to Lauren and her work. Also, Alice.😊

I appreciate these three arcs as I’m writing something about adultery with ultimate, long-fought reconciliation. I’d love to read “Alice.”

"In moments such as these, the veil of reality is momentarily lifted. Something tender and true breaks through." The veil, such a beautiful essay.
