When i wanna gift sb something, i like to know their preferences to some extent. Personally, i prefer to receive gifts such as clothes (My mom sometimes jokingly hits me whenever i wear sth and it looks good on me. That's because physically, i'm like my dad: broad shoulders, tall hands and legs. And my mom's shorter than my dad), nail polishes (no color preference. I have ten nail polishes stored somewhere in my room, but i always wanna have more😁), mugs and books (Especially literary books).
All my kids love clothing, too!! Which is maybe why this list is so heavy on clothing or clothing-adjacent items!! And as a kid—and young adult!—that was definitely what I wanted!!
Okay, who am I kidding? It’s what I want now, too!
And I initially had several favorite nail polish colors and formulas on here but cut, as the list was SOOOO long—at one point, I considered doing a special second list that was just beauty and grooming products!—and maybe I’ll just tell you that it included my all-time favorite, Essie’s silk slip (which I keep in my bag at all times!!) and Chanel’s reboot of Vamp, as well as Oisteau (a dark purple) and Reveuse (a crazy green)!
Thanks for your reply, Joanna. Clothing for me is very important because in Kerman my residence city, falls and winter are very cold (not as cold as Finland but cold), and warm clothes are a MUST HAVE for me.
I don't have many grooming products, just a pair of tweezers, an eyebrow brush, a pair of scissors to trim my brows when necessary, a cream, a sunscreen, and a Braun epilady (A Silk-Epil 9, the latest series). And about nail polishes, i see them more as a form of defiance against the society i've been living in for decades (I won't go into much detail here for now).
For my 21-year old son, who recently moved out finally to live with his girlfriend so has to cook for himself regularly (also, has sensory issues and adhd) I bought Margaret Eby's cookbook entitled "You Gotta Eat". It's separated into sections by your capacity to cook on any given day-- "For When You Can Only Open A Bag", "For When You Can Rouse Yourself to Open Cans", etc. I wish, wish, WISH I'd had this at various low-capacity points in my life. It's brilliantly and lovingly conceived.
Oooooooooh! That’s a great idea for MY son, who is nineteen and sort of semi-learned to cook on his gap year, but would love this!
When I was twenty-three, my mom gave me a few cookbooks, including one called Cooking for Absolute Beginners, which really taught me to basics and I’m still, thirty years later, grateful to her for it!
I grew up with a love of cooking everything from scratch (and maybe a bit of snobbishness about it, if I'm honest) so early motherhood was ROUGH and then later, single parenting with young children was ROUGH because I still felt like I had to hold myself to a certain standard that was not in line with my capacity, mental-health wise, and just made things worse. I feel like Eby, particularly because she's a trained chef, works for Food & Wine, and ALSO struggles with depression, offers a perfect balance of understanding that we need to eat for health and sensory pleasure but also not every day is one we can manage to go all out, so she offers ways to meet yourself where you are with good humor and compassion. I've never read anything like it, and I hope it helps my son head into adulthood with a more loving and realistic way of relating to himself and this very necessary, daily chore.
Love the three methodologies listing - you totally nailed it!
I didn't often get socks as a kid, but it was kinda a bummer. But now it would be great if someone bought me the socks I like - good socks are spendy!!! but they make such a difference, especially if you are on your feet a lot. Oh, does that mean I'm old? hahaha
I don't need any more shoes, but those red (and the yellow velvet!) Mary Janes...
Thanks for sharing, and Appropriate Holiday Greetings of Your Choice!
I feel it’s my duty to say: The red Mary Janes are on sale right now and VERY cheap! (Like, $25!)
Also, I feel the same about socks!! My kids and pets always steal mine, so for ages I only bought the cheapest possible socks, which always disappear instantly. But last year, when I grabbed a few pair of those Fatface socks, I realized the power of the Great Sock!!!
LA LA LA LA LA (covers ears) not listening to “red Mary Janes being on sale” 😆
I had not heard of Fatface! Smartwool was my intro to Great Sock, then I moved on to Fox River, but sadly (story of my life) they stopped making the model I liked, now in Darn Toughs, which I was introduced to by getting a pair as a Christmas gift!!!
those marshmallows are such a great idea! also i want the bracelet kit for myself and the red shoes.
The red shoes are, like, the cost of two lattes!! Get them!! (They also come in a lovely and very of-the-moment chocolate brown!)
Same!

I always appreciate what you share about your life, Negar. ❤️

That sounds like the most brilliant book!
So many good suggestions here! Thank you!
I agree! Glad you enjoyed it, Barbara!
Thank you so much!!! Sometimes I feel like gift selection is my super power!

Ooooooooh! I have to look into all these!! (I have smartwool socks for skiing but never thought of them as an everyday thing!!!)
you could totally do marketing for them! “Smartwool socks, they’re not just for skiing!” :)
They really need to sponsor me. Getting on that now!
I could have written this comment, Megan! I love the three methodologies!! I feel like they could be expanded into a book!
And, ooooh, how I have come to love socks!! And there are so many beauties these days!
And I've never worn Mary Janes in my life, at least as an adult...perhaps as a child??, but I want both the red and yellow pairs!!
Happy holidays!
My pleasure, Jane.
