Ohhh- thank you profoundly for your willingness to be vulnerable and share some of your beautiful spiritual prayers and practices, Jane! They are golden and have touched me deeply. In fact I have written the pre-bedtime spirit calling one on a post-it note and will be reciting it myself this evening. Thank you again for your willingness to share something so intimate (and lovely!)

Ooooooh, thank you, Marisa! Your beautiful words went straight to my heart! And it makes me so happy to think of you calling back your spirit tonight. Let us know how it goes!! ❤️

My honor! It was a powerful prayer for me! It’s funny I often have a ritual for releasing what is not mine to hold, but I haven’t yet had one for calling parts of myself back in. Quite important I’d say for sovereignty! Thank you again 🙏🏼✨

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

So true! There is a lot of emphasis these days on releasing what doesn't belong to us, which is great, but not so much on calling back what we've lost. ❤️

Jane, I too have a horrible time trying to sleep through the night unless I take a half a sominex and I don’t like taking pills. My husband died tragically 3 1/2 years ago. It’s at night that all the images and thoughts go round around around. I am definitely going to try all of your methods. I will try them because they are full of love and light and that in and of itself will suppress the darkness. Thank you. Keep inspiring…

Oh, Patty, I'm so very sorry to hear this. Yes, so much catches up with us at night. The prayers have helped me so much but I also used the things I mention in my previous post--passionflower, et cetera. Did you see that one? Sleep depravation is so awful. I definitely have sleep trauma from all those years. These days, I take my magnesium, get in bed, and, unless my old-man kitty wakes me, sleep through the night. I share that because I truly wasn't able to sleep more than two or three hours a night for nearly a decade. Bodies can change! So I know if I got to a better place, you can, too!! Sending so much love and support. And thank you for your kind words. They went right to my heart!

Thank you Jane for reminding about the ho’oponopono practice, which I haven't done in years, and I will do tonight in bed. As well as the praying... I need all the help I can get to support my daughter during this challenging time.

I have also blocked the news (as much as I can) and start my mornings by reading poetry to ground myself. It's my lifeline. As well as my regular yoga and meditation practice.

Always a pleasure to read you! Take good care of yourself.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Why am I not surprised you're familiar with ho’oponopono, Imola! It's so potent, especially doing it on myself. And, yes, I do believe a form of praying that grows from within each of us, can be quite potent.

I know quite a few people who start the day by reading poetry. I keep meaning to...and then forgetting. Thank you for the reminder!

Sending love and support to you and your daughter. xx

Thank you lovely Jane! All the love back at you. Now, thanks to your reminder, the ho’oponopono is my evening and morning practice!! 💕

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Oh, goodie! And first thing I did when I woke this morning was read a poem!! ❤️

Amazing! I love that we inspire each other to feel better!

Jane, I love the first two things so much! I grew up saying prayers at bed time and eventually, as I got older and the bed time routine stopped being a thing, they fell away somewhat... More recently I've found myself coming back to the prayers, less because it's an obligation and more because I feel the calm and peace they bring me. Highly recommend night prayers before drifting off (or even to help me drift off when I'm too wired.)

The second one is so helpful too. I am prone to catastrophizing and guilting myself, and I struggle with finding that forgiveness instead of judgement. I'm going to have to try you technique out and see how it goes.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

This makes me so happy, Noha! I agree, I've found nighttime prayers so comforting and nourishing. I say them in the morning as well. And before meals. And spontaneously throughout the day. I just didn't get to those! I hope the mantra helps. It can be so potent. And we need that extra a lot these days! xx

Your prayer recitation schedule is incredibly aligned with ours. There are prayer recitations for waking up, going to bed, before meals, entering the washroom, doing something hard (like a test for example), when you've lost something and you're looking for it, etc etc etc. As a child I found it too rigid but as an adult I find it grounding and calming. I'm excited about the mantra too. I'll keep you posted.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Ooooooh, I love that!! I've largely invented all mine. But I love the idea of following in the footsteps of the ancestors. That feels important and potent to me. xx

I am so glad you chose to share this post with all of us, Jane. I am going to use some of your practices in my own life. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing more of you with all of us. Gratitude to you for all you give. You truly are a treasure.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Oh, Mary, thank you deeply. Your words and support mean more than you may realize. xx

I love all of these, and thank you for sharing them. I will try them, I can imagine already how good they will feel to my body. To fall asleep if I can't, I focus on feeling the insides of my finger and toes, energetically. I practice reiki, and getting into that reiki state is helpful to feel safe and it also occupies my mind just enough until it doesn't - and, that's when it is working.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Oooooh, Melissa, I love that notion of focusing on the insides of our fingers and toes. How beautiful. If you do try these, I hope they offer some peace. xx

I appreciate how brave you are Jane to share something so personal! Like you mentioned about social media I try very hard to keep my feed animal-centered. Things that make me laugh or joyful but then I mistakenly pause over something of this chaotic horrible moment in time and then I have to work really hard to feel peace or even hope again. I am awake lately for a few hours each night but since I read your essay I have been repeating the lines « Please forgive me… » and it does soothe. So thank you for sharing that!

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Oh, Ines, it's so hard not to pause over the brutality and injustice and terror of these times. I've just pulled myself off a couple hours of doing so. So often we have to lovingly and with great determination, reorient ourselves, or at least I do! It is important to know what's going on and look for ways we can help. But also be mindful of how much our nervous systems can actually handle. I'm saying all of this to myself, not you! Haha. I'm so happy that prayer is helping. I'm about to do some rounds myself! And thank goodness for animals!! xx

Ines Vassos Rincon's avatar

I agree with you completely. That’s the rub. The balance between knowing what’s going on and our mental and spiritual health. It sounds hyperbolic but just a few hours I spent today reading about current events hurt my soul. It makes me feel powerless, anxious and hopeless. It does take great determination to reorient. It is reassuring to know one is not alone in this.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

Yes, we are all in this together.♥️

I pray similarly at night usually soaking in a hot bath with epsom salt. With the recent craziness (increase in craziness) my prayers have been getting long. I copied yours, thanks for sharing them with us.

I practice the ho’oponopono prayer as well, Jane. I learned it many years ago while leading a retreat in Hawaii. It's simple yet so powerful. Thanks for sharing your personal and private practices. They bring comfort and encourage each of us to continue our own.

Jane Ratcliffe's avatar

How wonderful to learn this potent practice in its homeland!! I feel like you must have picked up some extra powerful ho’oponopono energy!! And thank you, as always, for your kind words, Paulette!
