I’m so comforted that Don is reading Alice Walker’s journals. When I first saw that book in a store I thought: “This would be so nice to sink into” and also “it would take me seven years to finish this.” Extremely happy to meet the person with the patience for collected letters. Also, what a warm intellect with so much soul, pondering ethics and love and interconnection of humans and animals. Thank you both!
The book is quite readable, actually. I'm taking it a bit slowly to savor and ponder what I read, but most parts are not dull. It's not letters to friends; it's actual journal entries lightly edited for clarity or to protect identities in a few cases. There is a historical aspect also as the journals are from the 1960s to 1999 and she knew a lot of well-known people. Just get the book. :)
lol you've pleasantly strong-armed me. I actually do like letters to friends (especially women??) but also like hearing how people talk to themselves in their heads, re: their lives and journaling. again, happy to meet a savor- and ponderer!
One of the most engaging, enlightening and yes, human essays I’ve ever read. So relatable. Thanks Don and Jane for making it happen.
I'm so happy you feel that way, CeCe! I agree! 🌸
This is lovely and inspires me to put some music on and move my body around 😀❤️
Aw, wonderful! Glad you enjoyed the interview! ❤️
