My journey of chronic illness is a drop of discomfort to your ocean of pain, Jane, but your experience resonates with me. I especially appreciate the reminder about EFT, which I've tried before and will now try more enthusiastically, and the stinging nettles infusion, which I have not tried. Thank you for sharing (a snippet of) your complicated, difficult story so others like me may benefit.
Thank you, Karen! And I'm sorry you've also struggled. Oof. It can be so hard to have a body!! Nettles changed my health! But it's not something that happened overnight. At least not for me!! And, yes, EFT is amazing!! Let me know what you think of the nettles!!
Thank you for sharing this. All the struggle is unfair but I personally found so much meaning in being able to pass onto others what helped me. And I'm so glad some of that is what helped you, too! Love you.
Thank you for these wonderful tips Jane. I’m so sorry for the pain and discomfort you have to endure. And how generous of you to want to help others. As a yoga teacher, I would add breathing and meditation to your list. Sometimes it’s the only thing that helps me. Sending much love.
I am so happy that you did not give up. Your health journey sounds terrifying but now your words have energy and hope and it sounds so positive. Thanks for the suggestions. I just purchased some of your wellness items and am looking forward to a calmer holiday season. Be well and thanks again.
I read this and the entire time I am thinking that we just never can know what another is navigating. Jane, you are SO generous in your heart shares. Thank you. Saying our full names, aww, that lands, and I love talking to myself, so now you have offered me a fresh new idea.😊We each carry invisible challenges, my gratitude for a needed pause to remember that, and keep it in the forefront always. Gentle and loving care. 💜🪶💜
Thank you, Joanie! ♥️ Yes, we are all carrying something!! Life can be so dang hard. Thank goodness for animals and good friends and chocolate! Curious to hear what happens if you start saying your name out loud! 🌸
Thank you!! 🙏 something interesting here is that my yard is actually full of Passionvines. I have about three varieties. Butterflies everywhere in the fall and spring 🦋 as they are just plants for fritillary types.
I loved this. I'm a practicing therapist as well as writer, and many of my clients (and myself) struggle with anxiety. I use EFT a lot in sessions and have recommended CALM drink in the regular. I love the name idea! And Now I'll experiment with nettles and passionflower too! Thanks for sharing a bit of your journey, Jane.
Thank you Jane for your tips. Your journey helps me understand my son-in-law and grandson more. Little things like magnesium and saying my name help me. Be well.
A phenomenal guide. I started #3 in 2021 (in the morning), and felt something reorganize in my body at a fundamental level—a homecoming into ease that I didn’t have to practice or work toward. This is one to bookmark and share.
I've tried nettle tea but never a nettle infusion. I'm excited to give it a go - thank you, Jane! My insomnia (from long Covid) didn't last nearly as long as yours, but oh my God, that experience can be so unbelievably awful. I had a little patch of it again recently, and I could feel the sleep fear come raging back. It's such a deeply existential terror. I love the idea of a new beverage I can throw at it (even if it tastes like swamp water)!
Infusions are much more potent. As noted, nettles were a slow grow for me, but I have friends who felt differences immediately! But over time, they really brought so much calm to my nervous system. And passionflower helps on those nights of sleep fear -- which is the worst!! I'm so sorry you've also struggled with insomnia, Lisa. Thank goodness we're both on the other side of it, even if we do still have to sort our way through some slip backs from time to time!
Jane, thank you for this very informative and interesting article;for you to write with such positivity while going through all that is awesome...I will definitely try some of your remedies for my own chronic health issues, including insomnia.Thank you again for sharing with us...much appreciated!
Oh, thank you, Sandra. Your words touched my heart! I'm sorry you also struggle with insomnia. It's so hard. I had it very very very bad and now I mostly sleep quite well, so it can improve! I hope it does for you!!
I grew to love it!! Someone earlier in the comments let me know Susun Weed’s recipe is significantly stronger than others. So perhaps that’s part of the intense taste!! 😹
Though I never grew to love it, from the moment I took my first swig, my body acted like it was ingesting a gallon of water after a year in the desert. I could feel it nourishing whatever was parched then, and, while I've fallen off of this practice for a while, I just found a bag of Arbor Teas nettles, which are lovely and so, so clean, so perhaps it's a sign to circle back to the tea.
Thank you for sharing the nettle resource! How much do you use? It seems from the video that she used 1oz to 1 qt which seems *really* strong. I am seeing more like 1/4 of that strength in other places. What do you like?
Hi Golden! I've only ever followed Susun Weed's recommendations. That's interesting that other places recommend less. I didn't know that! Susan's work came highly recommended by my friend who's an herbalist and her books made a lot of sense to me so I just started following her recipes without looking elsewhere. Sorry I don't have more insight!! Curious to hear what you decide on!
So you use 1oz to a quart? I was really hoping that jar in her video was a 4 quart, but it looked like a regular qt to me. Maybe I will split the difference and start in the middle.
Yes, that's the recipe that I follow! I just looked at Mountain Rose Herbs and they suggest the same proportions. My jar is 2.5 quarts. But I still use those proportions. I do mine before bed and let it steep overnight!
Thank you for writing. It sounds like a tough journey - but you are helping others and I am reviewing all of your recommendations looking forward to a calm holiday.
Much appreciated! One of my practices is to literally bow to my limits and dance with my suffering. I’ve learned so much through my struggling nervous system.
I responded to this but now I don't see my comment! Apologies if it appears twice! But that is such a beautiful practice! I have done my version of that and found it to be so heart-nurturing! ❤️

Forever thankful we met!!

Yes!! Those have helped me a lot, too!! ❤️
I just ordered my first batch of nettle leaves! Thank you for all of this information and personal experience!
Oh, yay! Some people feel the nettles supporting them immediately. For me, it took awhile! Enjoy!

How amazing!! They are soooo beautiful! The first time I saw one in real life, my heart burst open! ❤️

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that, Maggy! Passionflower is gentle but potent! And: "a homecoming into ease." How beautiful!!

When I was pregnant, the midwives insisted on nettle tea. It's actually pretty delicious.
