Chiming in with Rona... the series of career setbacks really spoke to me. It was almost nourishing to think about who I might send a card and a box of chocolates for turning me down for a job that wouldn’t have been right in any way. Thank you to everyone who didn’t buy lotions or bath salts from my sensory shop! Processing inventory was not my future. 🫶🫶🫶
The highlight for me was the series of career disappointments that turned out to be an escalating stroke of luck. As for rereading, I’ve read Shirley Hazzard’d glorious TRANSIT OF VENUS three or four times and am not done with this novel.
I know! I was so moved by that. Christina's comment had me reviewing my own life! I think you've mentioned how much you love that book before. I really need to read it!
What a lovely interview - and author. Thank you, Jane.
Yes, the wishlist of books to read is certainly long for me, too. To add to that, the long list of audiobooks and now Substack newsletters only makes it feel like the list is growing longer rather than shorter.
'Journey of Souls' had (and continues to have) a profound effect on me too 😀 And I fully agree that our bonds with animals can sometimes be stronger than our bonds with humans.... those who know, know ❤

Haha! So true! I went through the same thought process. It's a good way to view your own life!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Jo! And, yes, the list is loooooooong! I feel like every time I do an interview, my list grows. Haha.

I'm so curious about that book now. I will have to check it out. And, yes, to the animal bond!! Often much stronger! We know! ❤️
I reread McMurtry's "Terms of Endearment" almost every year.
Oh, that's so lovely!
