To get to read today’s entry on Beyond, at the wee hours of the morning, when I can’t sleep, has given me just what I needed. A good cry.
And amazing company - a lullaby.
And now I do not feel so frozen inside from some cluster of anxiety (we’re all living through these days) - will democracy hold? is the horror going to stop? which of my loved ones gets Covid next and will it be mild or scary-bad?
Now, after reading Beyond, I feel softer and released and can curl back into my blankets to finish my rest because your introducing me to Casey Mulligan Walsh’s writings has helped me find my own nuggets of strength and reassurance.
Her writing is breathtaking.
Thank you Jane for what you’ve created in your Substack. It keeps me reading and soothed and inspired.
Oooh, thank you for sharing this! I'm so sorry you're having a rough night but am awfully glad (and not at all surprised!) that Casey's gorgeous words have helped soothe you. And thanks for your kind words and support of Beyond!
A year and a half later, popping back in here to revisit this essay, I saw your comment, Marissa. I'm sorry you were having a difficult night, but I'm so grateful for this comment and that you took the time to write it before going back to sleep. Hope all is well in your world. xo C
This is heart wrenching and beautiful. I love how you tell us just enough. Parts of the story, but not all. This withholding seems to mimic life: we just don't know what is going to happen and once we do know, we still don't know the elusive Why. Thank you for this.
Jane,I think at some point we’ll need to spotlight You and the journey of the writer’s convos in your own ‘stack :) I’ll throw my hat in the ring to do that at the 6-month mark.
Aw, thanks, Anne! You're not the first to suggest this. Maybe at the one year mark. Which might be about six-months for you, yes? So we could interview one another!
Casey, you've achieved here a beautiful balance of heartbreak, stoicism, and self-protection. It's a marvel--thank you for sharing yourself with the world.
